Dental implants are placed in the gum and jawbone where an original tooth is now missing or in a gap the size of a tooth. The implant works much like a root of a tooth by holding the crown in place. If enough bone structure is present to support an implant, this is usually seen as the best option available. The end result usually looks and feels much like the original tooth, and the teeth on either side of the implant do not have to be prepped or crowned in the process. Implants are performed at our office, but some cases are referred to an oral surgeon or periodontist.
